We've been Slammed :-(

In case you aren't aware, Slamming is an illegal practice (in the US anyway) where your local phone company changes your long distance provider WITHOUT your consent.... OR Knowledge! In our case we were switched from Sprint to AT&T by US-West/Qwest. This meant that we got a horrendous phone bill. We were billed $71 for 45 minutes of calls to the UK. Using Sprint this would have cost us $4.50. Fortunately the FCC has decided that "Under the new rules, any carrier that a consumer calls to report being slammed must inform the consumer that he or she is not required to pay any slamming charges incurred for the first 30 days after the unauthorized switch." For further details check the FCC website.
